The Nobel Peace Prize 2011 – Ellen Johnson Sirleaf

We are pleased to acknowledge Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s recognition for her contribution to both conflict resolution in Africa and women’s rights in particular, as one of the three recipients of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize – a great honour for her, for Liberia, and for Africa as a whole

Earlier this year Lady Lori supported the launch of The GREAT Initiative, a new UK based charity focused towards issues gender inequality in Africa.

Immediately prior to GREAT’s launch event, the Trustees of the Gender Rights & Equality Action Trust flew to Liberia to meet with the Honorable Ellen Johnson Sirleaf – Africa’s first female Head of State – to discuss the role that women had played in the ending of the long running civil war in that country.
