Rhino Watch

With rhinos under increasing threat from poachers, conservancies in east Africa are on a mission to save the species. There is high value placed on their horns which has made rhinos highly attractive to poachers. Between 2008 and 2011 776 rhinos were killed in South Africa. Now, rhinos are under 24-hour armed protection. 

The poaching trade in both rhino horn and ivory has reach a new level, comparable to that of drug cartels or arms dealing. Jessamy Calkin visits three pioneering east African conservancies determined to save the species. You can read the full article here.
