Click the image to see a video that shows a group of 38 chimps that had spent 30 years inside testing facilities in Austria being released into a safari park. Like the rest of the world – where this videa has caused a sensation – we at Lady Lori deplore the idea that such intelligent creatures can be subjected to such barbaric treatment.
After spending up to three decades undergoing medical tests, including being injected with HIV and hepatitis, the chimpanzees amazement at finally being free is clear.
The footage firstly shows adult chimps gazing out of their enclosure at the outside world.
After taking a few steps, one chimp turns back, hugging another chimp and squealing with excitement. Clearly overjoyed, the animals almost appear to laugh.
Some of the chimps shown were taken from Africa as babies, and have never in their lives experienced daylight, or anything other than their cages in a testing lab.
The group gained their freedom after a 14-year battle to secure their release from captivity. Testing on the apes ended in 1997, but they have been kept from the outside world ever since.
