These arresting photographs of chimpanzees were taken in the ‘Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary’ in Kenya, by Spanish photographer Gabi Guiard.
The Sweetwater Chimpanzee Sanctuary, which opened in 1993 in a negotiated agreement between the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the Jane Goodall Institute, is the only place in Kenya where the highly endangered and intelligent species can be seen.
The sanctuary provides lifelong refuge to a total of 41 orphaned and abused Chimpanzees, which have been either evacuated from the civil war in Burundi or rescued from other traumatic situations.
