‘Invisible Borders’ – an annual trans-African photography project that takes artists on different journeys across Africa to document the changing environments and lives they encounter, as a means of creating work that bridges cultural and geographical divides – has gone on display at New York’s New Museum, as part of the 2012 New Museum Triennial exhibition.
The exhibition, titled The Ungovernables, will be on view until April 22 – showing photographic images from the Invisible Borders: The Trans-African Photography Project, as well as video works and writings.
Nigerian Emeka Okereke, one of the co-founders of Invisible Borders, says “Our mission is to tell Africa’s stories, to expose its upcoming photographers to art practices in other parts of the continent and to contribute towards the socio-political discourse shaping Africa in the 21st century”’
